Who thinks that Colleges and Universities are primarily institutions of higher education? Anyone who raised their hands is wrong. Colleges and Universities are rated on how many dollars are brought into the institution. Specifically, nobody rates a college of engineering on how good the graduates are at their respective professions. The ratings are tied directly to the amount of research dollars brought into the institution. Professors must bring in money. They only teach as a necessary evil. There are exceptions to every rule. However, the professor who loves to teach will be threatened with expulsion should the research dollars not appear.
